Parks’ sports (bowls, cricket and football) facilities consultation
At our committee meeting on the 22nd May we reported that there will be a consultation on the provision of sports' facilities; that consultation is now open.
The Consultation is on the Council's Consultation Hub at
https://bristol.citizenspace.com/management-of-place/parks-sports-facilities/
The Consultation closes on 9th July 2019
This follows the consultation last year on options to make savings to the parks budget. The council made the decision that in the future, sporting activities taking place in parks must be cost neutral. Now a new six-week consultation is being opened on how this should be achieved.
Among the options people will be asked to consider are whether the council should invite interested third parties such as sports clubs to operate and maintain facilities, or continue to manage facilities with an increase in hiring and charging fees to cover costs.
The opportunity to suggest alternative ideas on how to operate facilities at no cost to the council will also be available in the consultation, which centres on cricket, bowls and football facilities hired from the authority on a pay and play basis or per season.
Among the sites affected are: Ardagh Bowling Green, Avonvale/Netham Bowls Facility, Begbrook Green Park Bowls Facility, Begbrook Green Park Football, Canford Park Bowls Facility, Canford Park Football, Dorian Road (football pitches only) Dundridge Farm Playing Fields (Football), Eastville Park Bowls Facility, Eastville Park Football, Greville Smyth Park Football, Kings Head Lane Park Football, Netham Park, Oldbury Court Estate, Redcatch Park Football, St George Park Bowls Facility, Wellington Hill (football pitch only).
