Event Description

To all park users.

I am the Beat Manager for Bishopston and Redland and have for several months been trying to improve the situation ASB wise in St Andrews Park.  I have come up with an idea that I think will work.   Click here for the document which explains the idea and invites feedback from anyone with an interest in the park.

Please contact the Bishopston and Redland Beat Manager, PC 1414 Kevin Parsons with your thoughts.  Should you require further information, Kevin will be happy to provide it to you. Kevin's email is on the consultation document.

I've nothing against a few tight-rope walking hippies but no single activity should dominate the park, and if anything can be done to discourage the wider ASB problem by all means give flowers a chance.

I have no objection to there being a meadow but:

  • Who's going to create it / pay for the meadow? What will it cost?
  • Will it solve the problem or just move it to elsewhere in the park?

For me these problems aren't a priority matter, I'm just concerned the scheme sounds expensive and unlikely to work well, and that in times of austerity the money that this will cost might be better spent elsewhere. I suspect this may be driven by a small number of vocal residents and is being given more resources than it deserves. I assume the police aren't offering to pay for the meadow, so you're saying that you're not going to solve the problem and suggesting a way of passing the problem on to the council or somebody else. Maybe we should just admit that looking at the big picture this isn't particularly important and the cost of resolving the issue would be better spent elsewhere?
