What can be done... I picked up approx 8 plastic bottles, 2 glass bottles, 4 cans, plastic wrappers, smoking paraphenalia etc etc from around the pond and in the wildflower area. Some more bottles in the pond which we will have to get out next week when we have waders.

What we rely is that pond visitors appreciate that its maintenance is all voluntary; and that they might be more careful and clean up after their visit -perhaps they have yet to notice there is a waste bin near the pond, by the park gate into Melita Road. Let's hope our website posts help people, of all ages, to remember.

No... but the "child's" train ticket could indicate a young person was there! Best not to jump to conclusions though...

Thanks for clearing it up, Alison. I don't know what we can do - but Wagner's Ring Cycle is worth considering.

p.s we don't know it was teenagers, do we?

The pond does seem to increasingly attract adolescents - there are always some young people sat there when I visit - most are no doubt OK but I can't help thinking the trend will lead to more rubbish being deposited. Short of piping Wagner's Ring Cycle into the area I don't know what can be done to entice messy teenagers away from the pond.
