There are still a few late-in-the-season Azure damselflies mating in the pond, Sept 7th '12

This pair were resting between bouts of egg-laying, a process that can take up to 90 minutes. The male is in front, holding on to the 'neck' of the female, which he continues to do, helping to support her, while she lays eggs.
