"With present autumn rains, this topic is, I suppose, all water under the bridge now - or evaporated into the air?! But your point about tap water is valid. I would be more concerned at the insidious effects of its chlorine content. Vertebrates would…"

Jon Mortin replied to Mrs Zenia Pudduck's discussion Almost dry wildlife pond
"Topping up ponds with tapwater is usually not recommended as it is high in nitrates and leads to excessive growth of algae. Incidentally the best ponds for amphibians are those that dry up every 10 years or so, as they are then fish-free. Otherwise…"

Wildlife Pond

Currently staying in St Andrews and great to see the pond looking so much better than my last visit.  Could not see any sign of the goldfish, so guess now there is more water they can conceal themselves over a larger area.  I am really looking forward to seeing  the changes in the the trees during the autumn months.See More

"Hi Zenia, The pond  level is now fine, thanks, I believe to Mickey our resident park keeper whose work is invaluable in the park. No, you were right to contact FoSAP about your concern over the water level. However, fluctuating (and in dry…"

Once a month
What is it about St Andrews Park you like
Everything, my daughter lives near the gates and walks through the park everyday taking her son to school. When I am here I do the school walk too. I will soon be moving back to Bristol and look forward to even more time in the park. HOWEVER, THIS MORNING I WAS HORRIFIED TO SEE THE GOLDFISH GASPING FOR AIR IN THE TINY AMOUNT OF WATER LEFT IN THE NATURAL POND. THEY NEED WATER, AND THEY NEED IT NOW! I SPOKE WITH ONE OF THE RANGERS WHO TOLD ME FOSAP LOOK AFTER IT, SO PLEASE, PLEASE GET SOME WATER IN THERE ASAP.
