Here is the latest information (22.8.12) on
the paddling pool from Chris Hammond, BCC.

"The paddling pool as you said is a wonderful asset
and I have always tried to prioritize as much of my limited
budget to keep it open.

A few years ago there was a national closure of many children's paddling pools due to
cost and health and safety fears, but we in parks made a commitment to keep the pool
open in St Andrews Park.

Over the last few years we have had the pool surrounds completely refurbished and
added further safety fencing, the base of the pool presents us with a further large
refurbishment which currently we cannot fund.

The pool base is made from concrete and is full of cracks so each year we plug the cracks
with silicone and add a non slip coating, its clear this year the coating has not taken in a
number of places and I am in talks with English Landscapes to have the contractor
return to make good the defects."
