Supporting the Sustainable Communities Act

The last Parliament passed a new law that enabled local councils to petition Westminster for new local powers.  I promoted the idea with Local Works, the charity that brings together many national campaign groups, at a public meeting in Redland about 6 years ago.  A few weeks ago I initiated a short debate in Parliament about how the Act could be used to strengthen the rights of local communities who wish to comment on complex or controversial big planning applications.  This is often a very hot issue in Bristol West!  You can read more about the issue here:
