Hi everyone,

One thing that never made sense to me was why Sgt Jones was taken to a house on Effingham Road. This story came from several sources, but until now it had not made sense. Recently I received an e-mail from a man whose mother, Margaret Green (nee Davis) who lived at 49 Effingham Road in 1941. She was a member of the First Aid team for the area and when she heard the crash she went to the First Aid Post which was at 61 Effingham Road (near the corner of Grenville Road). She recalls a Dr Heron, who lived in Leopold Road treating the burns on an airmans hand - this must have been Sgt Jones. All makes sense now! I have added this information to my website.

Does anyone know anymore about this DR Heron?

Does anyone recognise this man with Karen Reilley? Can anyone put me in touch with him? He told Karen that he is the nephew of an ambulance driver.

Hi everyone,
I've finally got around to making a start on updating my website. So far I've added the story of Frederick Spray, a couple of photos of the memorial and I have embedded a You Tube video of Karen Reilley being presented with the posthumous award for her father PC Bruce Westlake. Much, much more to do.

Hi everyone,
Thank you all so much for everything you have all done to make the memorial a reality. I cannot express what it means to me. Special thanks to David and Jenny for organising everything and to Beryl Sanderson for her hospitality to my father, my brother and myself. Watch my website for photos and video in the near future.

Hi everyone,
I haven't had time to add anything recently as I've been looking after my parents after my father had a heart attack. I'm looking forward to Saturday and am extremely happy that the memorial is finally a reality. Hope to see you all there.

Unfortunately I have had to take the response form off my website because of the amount of spam I was recieving from it. I will get one up and running again soon, as soon as I can get my head around PHP! In the mean time don't hesitate to contact me here.

As several people have mentioned the Home Guard being in the park that night, I have added a page containing information (supplied by John Penny) about the 9th Gloucester Battalion (City of Bristol) Home Guard whose headquarters were at 99 Sommerville Road.

I found a photo of the right hand panel of the Steeple Morden memorial today and have added it to the pages of P/O Evans, Sgt Clarke and Sgt Lever.

Is anyone reading this blog?

Can anyone help me by calling on Clementine Haskins? I'd love to speak to her again and I'm sure she'd love to hear about the memorial plans. Please can someone do this for me? Contact me through my site or at john@wellingtont2905.co.uk
