PAGE 5: Butterflies

Only 5 species of butterflies have so far been photographed and officially recorded in the park (April 2013). Type in 'Butterfly' into the Search box at the top right of the website to see these and click on individual photos shown.  It is hoped that several more common species can be added to this list in the next year or so.  The five photographed species are:

  • Speckled Wood - Common and likely to be breeding in the park
  • Holly Blue - Common and likely to be breeding in the park
  • Green-veined White - unlikely to breed in park
  • Red Admiral - only 'passing through'
  • Ringlet - possibly breeding using the wildflower meadow grasses

Species that could also be expected to be seen flying in the park ( but not breeding) are:

Brimstone, Large White, Small White, Orange Tip, Painted Lady, Small Tortoiseshell, Comma.
